What makes a whiskey Irish?

• Must be produced in the Republic of Ireland
• Must be aged in Oak Barrels for at least 3 yrs
• Must be distilled from a mash of cereal grain
• Must be distilled below 189.6 proof/94.8% ABV
• Must be fermented by yeast
• Must be bottled no lower than 980 proof/40% ABV

*Most Irish whiskey is triple distilled compared to a double distillation that is typical with a scotch whiskey.
